From the very beginning of Mamut Pastels I had a very clear vision in mind that became a mission. In addition to producing high quality Soft Pastels, I also thought that something important had been somewhat neglected regarding this medium. To reclaim the Soft Pastel painting and Pastel technique so that it would no longer be considered a minor technique. To make known the possibilities of pastel and share it with as many people as possible, and to look for formulas that would bring this precious medium closer to people.

This (almost finishing) 2023 has been the Year Francisco Sorolla.
Several exhibitions on the Master Painter were healed around Spain and most especially in its beloved city, Valencia.
Valencia is a city that I personally love to visit from time to time. Of course this was a special occasion not to be lost! We are used to admire the colours of the Spanish painter, the light, the sun, the brightness… but we are not used to get the opportunity to se a “dark Sorolla”. A more mono chrome version of the master painter.

This August Mamut Pastels received a special visit from a dear friend-Mihaela Zoeva, who is also a very talented young artist.
We were happy to invite her to try our pastels , and share with her our entusiasm about color!
We improvised an open art studio on the communal terrace at the top of our building and we filmed her ,while she was creating an unusual series of big-size abstract figurative drawings.

Another year, the Soft Pastel contest of the Central Mass Pastel Society of Massachusetts, Marks of Distinction National Exhibition, was held, in which Mamut Pastels had the opportunity to participate by awarding three prizes to the jury's selection. The jurors of selection this year were Loriann Signori and Javad Soleimanpour, and our Judge of Awards, Mim Brooks Fawcett.

Much has been written about the creative process. About what it means or how this process is developed to reach a result. Who doesn't want a magical or understandable formula to create? To create art, to create something new, to amaze viewers...
The creative process has diverse components that intervene in the creation of the “work” of art.

Central Mass Pastel Society, 2022 Marks of Distinction National Juried Show! CMPS is excited to bring you this curated exhibition of 73 pieces in soft pastel from artists working throughout the United States and Canada. Mamut was par of this event with some selected sets for the three winners. Congratulations to the accepted artists and award winners for their diverse and beautiful work, and thanks to thejurors of selection, Liz Balkwill and Natasha Isenhour, and Judge of Awards, Katie Hanson.
