Natalia Leonova. Soft Pastel Painter
I recently met Pastel painter Natalia Leonova and her amazing work!
We started a collaboration since we both have pastels in common. Meeting fresh and original artists and see how they can use my soft pastels, without knowing what the result will be, is an amazing experience! And of course a big surprise at the end of the process…
Here are some photos of Natalia Leonova´s painting process with Mamut pastels and also a text and impressions in her own words., that I personally found so sincere and touching that I didn´t want to touch even a comma... Of course translating is a delicate thing, so I hope I haven´t loose the essence. In any case, you can read the original text in russian at the end ot post. “Well, as they say, the best is the enemy of the good. I am not a spoiled person in the art materials, but I still understand the obvious things. I often watch professional pastel artists tell heartwarming stories, on how they started with Faber Castell and Koh-i-Noor, looking for sympathy, but they will never get it from me... Because I started with Olka and Sonnet!! But somehow at the exhibition, by an absurd accident, I won first place. I was presented with a bunch of flowers and a 48 Pastels set by Faber Castell. And I just flew away when I tried it 🙈!"
“It turned out that red can be (real) red rather than pale pink. Blimey! In addition, the stroke can be applied several times to the same place, without swearing from the fact that it slips off. At the moment, I use Munguo as my main base. This has been for several years already.. Then I was presented with several Rembrandt sets I had to complete later.”
"But the other day I got a wonderful set of Mamut pastels, which far exeeds in quality, covering power and convenience everything that I have tried until now. This drawing of rabbits was drawn mainly with Mamut pastels which were sent to me from Spain. This pastel is handmade. I really liked it. It is soft, rich... Despite the speckled size, it turned out to be very convenient for the work. You can break off a piece any time for a thin line..."
“What surprised me the most was that I painted almost all the work with this set, I thought with its soft nature nothing would remain from it, but it is like new after the work…Except that the pieces of paper (the pastel labels) got dirty with my rough black hands. Delivery from Spain to Omsk took 11 days with tracking. Special thanks to Mamut for a great material!” Natalia Leonova.
